At Insight, we are grateful for the gift of technology that allows our counselors to meet with people in places and at times who might not otherwise be served by biblical counseling. When you meet with an Insight counselor online, we’ll be working hard on our end to “make the screen disappear.” Here are some ways you can make the most your online counseling session.

Access.

Insight uses Zoom for Healthcare, an easily accessible video platform that guarantees your privacy and aims to provide the best quality user experience. Your counselor will send you a meeting id before your appointment. Simply click on the link. You can use a laptop, desktop, or mobile device. Phones and tablets will often require a free app download. And remember to be fully charged or have a charging cable plugged in already.

Log on.

It’s helpful to log on a few minutes before your appointment. This will give you time to adjust your video and audio and to make sure your appointment starts on time. When you log on, your counselor will be notified that you are in their virtual waiting room. Just like an in-person appointment, when they’re ready to start, they’ll “open the room.”

Audio.

Hearing what you have to say is extremely important to your counselor. If you are able to use headphones with a microphone, it can cut back on feedback and ensure that your counselor can hear you.

Light.

Your counselor benefits from getting to see you clearly. If you are able to sit in front of a sunny window, or another light source in front of you, that is ideal. You can also turn the brightness up on your computer screen. You can avoid being “back lit” by not having a stronger light source behind you than the light in front of you.

Internet quality.

Modern telehealth video platforms are pretty forgiving. Your counselor will plan to have a strong interent connection for their meeting with you. If you are concerned about the quality of your internet, it may be helpful to ask other household members to avoid streaming video or gaming during your session.

Privacy.

Your counselor will be in a quiet, private, and confidential environment, just as if they were meeting with you in person. Try to find a quiet place where you won’t experience interruptions for your session. Silencing your phone can also be helpful.
